Summer 2026 packet context
The May 11, 2026 Public Art Commission agenda packet lists Item 2 as EUHSD Student Murals Summer 2026. Staff requested approval of a student mural submission for the Escondido Union High School District Student Murals program to be installed at the Park Avenue Community Center as recommended by public input. The staff recommendation and recommended action were to approve.
The Public Art Commission allocated $15,000 in the 2025/2026 Public Art Annual Work Plan for the program. The cost of the proposed mural would be $14,000. The partnership allows students, with supervision and assistance from their art teacher, to paint murals on City buildings.
For the Summer 2026 item, City staff received 20 student artist designs. A subcommittee selected the outdoor patio wall of the Park Avenue Community Center as the preferred location. Two student designs were approved to move forward to public input. Public voting at the community center from April 1 through April 8 recorded 67 votes for one design and 161 votes for the other.
